William Rast Launches at Dillard’s

Celeb denim favorite, William Rast, has arrived at Dillard’s.
The men’s and women’s lines feature cool washes and edgy fits, which makes sense since the label’s co-founder is superstar Justin Timberlake.
Dillard’s now carries the widest selection of William Rast featured in any department store, and we’ve found some favorites among their collection.
The “Jerri” Ultra-Skinny jeans are our top pick, thanks to their top-stitching and lightly-distressed look, and the “Jade” trousers in olive are also covetable. We picture them with layered sheer tees and platforms for a great Spring look.
Shop William Rast online at Dillards.com, or pop into their Stonebriar location this weekend, March 12th, for the official launch party. They’ll be featuring music, refreshements, and special denim fittings all day, and for every pair of jeans you try on, you’ll be registered for the killer cosmetics gift basket they’re giving away.

William Rast to be Honored as Brand of the Year at the 33rd Annual American Image Awards
I posted a lil bit about this weeks ago, here is more info from the official press release:

Hosted by the American Apparel & Footwear Association April 27, 2011 in NYC
LOS ANGELES, March 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — William Rast, the “New America” denim culture brand, founded by Justin Timberlake in 2005, will be recognized by the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) as Brand of the Year on April 27, 2011 at the 33rd Annual American Image Awards. The award recognizes the continued evolution and growth that has launched William Rast into a popular, multi-faceted label.
“We are truly honored to be recognized by our peers in the fashion community,” says CEO Colin Dyne. ”The past six years of building William Rast into a full lifestyle brand has been an incredible journey for us. We think a key factor to our success and recognition in the fashion community has been the focus on creating a comprehensive brand platform, instead of going down the road of a traditional celebrity branding. Authenticity and credibility have been key drivers for all of us involved. Receiving this award now, just when we just have taken significant investments in strengthening our denim business and having launched the best American made contemporary denim collection the company has ever put out, makes the recognition even more meaningful.”
Originally comprised of only denim, the brand has expanded into a complete lifestyle collection. The brand launched to the fashion community during LA Fashion Week in October 2006 but shortly thereafter moved to show its contemporary men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections during New York fashion week where the brand continues to wow the fashion community with it’s star studded, high fashion events. William Rast has found its home on the floors of top-tier department stores and boutiques across the globe, and has become a staple for denim fans worldwide.
The brand is known for delivering on-trend design, impeccable fit and modern American styling and has, through its branding and marketing initiatives, solidified William Rast as a name beyond celebrity.
Recently, the brand has expanded into eyewear and footwear. The eyewear collection, consisting of optical and sun, recently launched for Spring 2011 with global license partner Viva International Group. The capsule collection for women’s footwear launched for Fall 2010. The brand is also known for its innovative and out of the box branding and marketing initiatives, ranging from viral films and social media strategies, to inclusive and inspirational events and parties. The Company also operates it’s own free standing William Rast retail stores in Los Angeles, Miami, San Jose and Palm Springs.
The AAFA hosts the American Image Awards each year to honor individuals and companies in fashion and retail whose career and industry achievements, charitable activities and records of outstanding service set industry standards. The event, which is attended by over 700 industry, retail, and media leaders, as well as celebrities, will benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Kevin Burke, President and CEO of AAFA says: “We are thrilled to honor such a dynamic, exciting brand as William Rast. They along with our other honorees represent the best in leadership and innovation within the industry.”

William Rast Refocuses on Contemporary American-Made Denim With New Design and Sales Team
WR Collection to debut at ENK Vegas, February 14 – 16
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — William Rast, the “New America” denim culture brand, founded by Justin Timberlake in 2005, has refocused its efforts on the contemporary American-made denim category the brand originally became known for at its inception. The company will launch the updated and expanded collection at ENK Vegas, February 14th – 16th. The denim offering will include newly developed fabrics, innovative and on-trend washes and new fits, all accompanied by fresh, modern branding and packaging. The company has brought on board a team of denim and sportswear experts in design, merchandising and sales.
“We see a huge growth opportunity in denim for 2011 and beyond,” said Colin Dyne, Chief Executive Officer of People’s Liberation, the parent holding company of William Rast. ”After seeing a slow year for denim in 2010, we think the consumer, who has filled their closets with alternatives such as leggings, jeggings, chinos and cargos, is ready to come back to denim. We have invested significantly in denim development to come up with the best fits, and have taken all steps necessary to make sure we have the softest, most comfortable and sophisticated fabrics and washes in the market for Fall 2011.”
Newly appointed President of Wholesale, Rick Spielberg, will be leading the team of denim experts, as well as the new sales team, each of who has extensive domestic and international experience. ”We have perfected the fit on each of our denim styles and are using only premium fabrics from our mills in Italy, Japan and the US, resulting in a product with a softer, more natural feel,” says Rick Spielberg. ”We have been working extremely hard with our Los Angeles factories to create a truly contemporary American-made denim that offers unbeatable value to the premium denim consumer.”
Overseeing the creative direction for non-denim, sportswear apparel, is industry veteran Gregg Fiene, founder and previous owner of XOXO. In this role, his initial focus will be on building complete collections for both retail and wholesale to support the denim category. ”I am excited to come in and support the growth for such an amazing brand. The ambition is to develop a full sportswear collection for the retail stores and offer that for wholesale for next season.”
Adding to its recently launched eyewear partnership, the brand will continue to expand into other licensed categories, and is actively in discussions regarding footwear, watches and leather goods. The brand will also further pursue the roll out of additional freestanding William Rast retail stores.
“This is such an exciting time for the brand. We just successfully concluded our limited edition, five-week designer collaboration with Target, where we designed specific product unique to that channel, and we are being honored as Brand of the Year in April at the AAFA American Image Awards”, says Colin Dyne. ”It is a great kick-off to the new year to have this kind of exposure as a platform to leverage the company’s investment in the design and sales team, and to launch our newly developed, exclusive premium denim collection.”

William Rast Co-Founder Trace Ayala on Bringing Biker Bohemia to Target

The William Rast for Target collection is set to hit stores on December 19, and if the turnout is anything like last weekend’s private shopping event, items will go fast. All styles of the leather jackets were snatched up within a few hours and the WR signature denim was also a big crowd-pleaser. In anticipation of the launch, co-founder Trace Ayala gives BlackBook the scoop on his and Justin Timberlake’s big move into “rebelliously priced” retail.
What drew you and Justin to a high-low designer collaboration with Target?
We loved the idea of sharing the brand with a new group of William Rast fans who may not typically shop in the channels where we currently distribute.
Since William Rast is known for producing high-quality denim, how did you decide which styles would fit into a lower price point?
We decided to base this denim collection on our most popular fits and styles, but make them truly unique to the program by developing special washes, treatments, and details. It was a very interesting project to work with these price points and to develop styles that still have our premium look and fit.
One feature that sets this collection apart from any other Target/designer collaboration is the incorporation of menswear. How important was it for you to include a men’s collection?
Yes, we are a lifestyle brand with both women’s and men’s. It was always the plan to include men’s. We were excited about the opportunity to inspire men to buy accessible and cool fashion at Target, and hope to be the first of more men’s designer collaborations at Target.
From leather jackets and shorts, to oversized tanks and chambray button-downs, the women’s collection captures all the key trends happening right now, with a touch of WR flair. Is there a girl in particular that inspired the collection?
Our girl has always been this cool tomboy who is still very in touch with her feminine side. We drew inspiration not so much from particular individuals but from the William Rast DNA of biker culture, rat pack, and American denim heritage, all wrapped up in influences from pop culture: music, film, art, and fashion.
What are your personal favorite William Rast for Target men’s and women’s pieces?
For women, my favorite is our raw skinny denim—super clean and wearable with our super-soft black leather fringe jacket. For men, the straight leg blue jean with just the right amount of wear and dirt is a great piece with our washed utilitarian shirts.
And finally: children’s wear is a major market right now, as designers like Stella McCartney and All Saints are rolling out youth collections that even adults are envious of. Any chance we’ll be seeing a William Rast kids’ line in the future?
We want to expand our line to all lifestyle categories. Children’s wear is definitely on our radar.

Forget trying to copy Sarah Jessica Parker’s style, now you can wear the real thing and all for a good cause. Thanks to The Glad Products Company’s Charitable Celebrity Coat Auction benefitting One Warm Coat, you could win your favorite celebrity’s winter ware and just in time for the holidays.
Now through Dec. 27 on eBay, you can bid on Glad® ForceFlex™ bags filled with coats donated by Parker, her family, and a host of others in the Glad® Charitable Celebrity Coat Auction (http://ebay.com/gladbagbank). Donations have been made by actresses Brooke Shields and Jayma Mays; recording artist Justin Timberlake, who has donated a coat from his William Rast line as well as Colbie Caillat and Lupe Fiasco; TV actors Florence Henderson, Bob Saget and Sara Rue; style icons Bobbie Thomas, Rachel Zoe and Tim Gunn; TV personalities Kyle Richards, Clinton Kelly and Kathy Lee Gifford; men in movies Peter Facinelli and Billy Crystal; athletes Gretchen Bleiler and Bode Miller; and Jim Whittaker, the first American to summit Mount Everest; and more.
Proceeds will be donated to One Warm Coat, a nonprofit started in 1992 with the simple premise to provide free coats to families in need. To date, the organization has distributed more than one million coats in thousands of local communities across North America.
“Our dream is that One Warm Coat becomes a part of the American lifestyle – when a coat is no longer needed, people will think of us and donate it to someone who needs it,” said Sherri Wood, president of One Warm Coat. “Thanks to the support from Glad and the celebrities participating in their campaign, we should be able to raise a lot of awareness – and coats – this winter.”
With 20 percent of U.S. children living in poverty, one in 10 parents has had to borrow or receive a donated winter coat for their child .
“This auction is perfect for anyone looking for a unique holiday gift or fashionable addition to their own winter wardrobe,” said Ryan Elvers, Brand Manager of The Glad Products Company. “And when you add a new coat to your collection, we hope you’ll use Glad’s Bag Bank to clean out your own coat closet to donate to One Warm Coat.”
The charity auction is just one way Glad® is helping to support local communities. Every year, Glad® supports local service efforts by donating millions of trash bags to help facilitate volunteer efforts. As a proud partner of non-profit organizations Keep America Beautiful and One Warm Coat, Glad® provides trash bags to hundreds of community clean-ups and coat drives across the nation. And now through May 30, 2011, Glad® is offering free trash bags through The Bag Bank to help consumers tackle their own community service projects.
The Bag Bank is a new program from the Glad to Give campaign, which provides opportunities for consumers to use Glad products to give back to their communities and charities.
To receive free trash bags for your community efforts via TheBagBank.com, consumers must complete a short request form, including a description of their service project. Glad® will review all submissions for relevance and purpose. The number of trash bags a volunteer receives will depend on the size of his or her service initiative, but donations range from 150 bags for small projects to 450 bags for large efforts.
In addition to receiving free trash bags, everyone who submits an eligible request will be entered into a random drawing in which three winners will each receive $1,000 for themselves and $1,000 for a charity of their choice.
