Justin Timberlake and Kanye West have been named among the Most Stylish Men of 2011 in a new InStyle magazine poll.

Editors have compiled a group of the 20 best-dressed guys and singer/actor Timberlake and rapper West, who recently launched his own fashion line, have made the cut.

Also, recognised: Zac Efron, Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson, soccer ace David Beckham, Jennifer Aniston’s boyfriend Justin Theroux and actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Justin Timberlake sure loves proving people wrong. When critics griped that the former N’syncer couldn’t make the transition from tween idol to respected artist, he went out and won a bunch of Grammys. When the same critics said he wasn’t a good enough actor to go from stage to screen, he gave one of the best performances of 2010 in The Social Network. This year saw Timberlake emerge as a full-blown leading man, thanks to winning performances in Friends with Benefits and Bad Teacher. The transformation might finally be complete after his next film, the sci-fi thriller In Time, introduces us to Justin Timberlake, action star. We may not know exactly what to make of a gun-toting Timberlake, but by now we know better than to bet against him.

Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake Make Vanity Fair’s ‘New Establishment’ List

Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake are among the list of influential business people on Vanity Fair’s “New Establishment” list. It represents “innovative new breed of buccaneering visionaries, engineering prodigies, and entrepreneurs, who quite often sport hoodies, floppy hair, and backpacks,” according to the press release. The inaugural “The Powers That Be” list contains a decidedly more old school group of executives and power players.

The “New Establishment” list is dominated by founders of major, influential technology companies. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg repeats at No. 1. Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page share the No. 2 spot and Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos lands at No. 3. A pair of Apple executives – new CEO Tim Cook and SVP of Industrial Design Jonathan Ives – are at No. 4. Jack Dorsey, a founder of Twitter and credit card payment startup Square, sits at No. 5.

The top entertainment executive on the “New Establishment” list is John Lasseter, chief creative officer at Pixar Animation and Walt Disney.

The three entertainers on the list are all active in business and technology. Lady Gaga, at No. 9 on the list, has invested in social platform Backplane and has partnerships with Monster (for a branded line of headphones), Polaroid (where she is creative director) and Zynga (the “GagaVille” video game). Jay-Z is at No. 21. He is a co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records and is the founder of Roc Nation, a multi-faceted partnership with Live Nation. Singer and actor Justin Timberlake likely made No. 50 on the list for his investment in MySpace (he also has investments in technology startups Stipple and Dekko).

Digital music is well represented on the list, even excluding Apple, Amazon and Google. Sean Parker, co-founder of Napster and investor in Spotify, is at No. 34. At No. 35 is Fred Wilson from Union Square Ventures, who has invested in SoundCloud, Kickstarter and Targetspot, among others. Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek is No. 47.

A case could be made for some leaders in music world left off the list. Pandora founder Tim Westergren or CEO Joe Kennedy seem like reasonable choices given the company’s trajectory and its successful IPO earlier this summer. Guy Oseary, who has made investments with Ashton Kutcher (No. 43) and operates the TinyChat social platform – in addition to managing Madonna – would not be out of place on the list either. Rio Caraeff, president and CEO at music video network Vevo, also wouldn’t be out of place on the list.

The “Powers That Be” list is comprised of “people who have shaped the world we live in today – and continue to wield enormous influence.” It replaces “The Vanity Fair 100″ list and has older leaders and innovators with longer track records. To no surprise, Steve Jobs, former CEO and current chairman of Apple, tops the list. And why shouldn’t he? Jobs not only co-founded Apple, he guided it from near ruin to its current status as one of the world’s most valuable and influential corporations. If there were a “Powers That Be” list for the music business, he would probably top that list, too. Apple is the world’s biggest music retailer and its products have become the standard for enjoying digital music.

Rounding out the top five of the “Powers That Be” list are Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of luxury goods company LVMH at No. 2, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg at No. 3, News Corporation chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch at No. 4, and Brian Roberts and Steve Burke, executive vice president of Comcast and CEO and president of NBCUniversal, respectively, sharing the No. 5 spot.

Because “some power is permanent,” as Vanity Fair put it, included a Hall of Fame as an amendment to the “Powers That Be” list. Members of the Hall of Fame include: Warner Music Group chairman Edgar Bronfman Jr., who stepped down as CEO last month; angel investor Ron Conway; John Malone, chairman of Liberty Media Corporation; Ron Meyer, president and chief operating officer at Universal Studios; Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corporation; and Philippe Dauman, president and CEO of Viacom

His real-life relationship to Jessica Biel fizzled out after four years, but 30-year-old Justin bounced back with a rumored fling with Olivia Wilde and an SNL hosting gig. His 12-month run doesn’t end there, since Bad Teacher, which brings him back together with ex Cameron Diaz, hits theaters at the end of June, and Friend With Benefits is out later in the Summer.

He’s best known for his multi-platinum recording career, which began when he was a member of ‘N Sync in the ‘90s. Selling over 14 million records world-wide, Timberlake is one of the most successful artists in the world. But the pop heartthrob can also be recognized as CEO and businessman though his varied business ventures, which is why FORBES is noting him as a featured celebrity entrepreneur in our 2011 Celebrity 100 issue.

In 2005 Timberlake co-founded the fashion label William Rast, which pulls in an estimated $50 million at retail each year. Sales tripled in 2010 for his high-end brand of tequila called 901 – named after the area code in his home town Memphis. A golf enthusiast, Timberlake dropped $16 million in 2007 for a golf course in Tennessee. Expanding on his musical roots, the singer serves as CEO and chairman of Interscope record label Tennman Records. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old’s film career is hotter than ever – he’s appeared in over a dozen films, including the 2011 Academy Award-nominated film The Social Network.

Bad Teacher (June 24)

Last fall, Justin Timberlake told EW that Cameron Diaz, as the world’s worst educator in Bad Teacher, reminded him   of Bill Murray. Now he’s taking it a step   further: ”No one else in the world can do what she did in this movie. Not even Bill Murray. It’s just one of a kind.’‘ For Diaz, the gleefully dark tale of a misanthrope who  neglects her seventh-grade charges while keeping alcohol and pot in the classroom is the closest she’s come to revisiting the comedic sensibility of 1998′s There’s Something About Mary. ‘There’s the same irreverence,” she says, ”the blatant disregard for anybody’s feelings. We’re not solving any problems or making any statements here. We just made a movie to make people laugh. Period.”

Timberlake, Diaz’s real-life ex-boyfriend, plays a newly arrived substitute teacher caught between Diaz and her nemesis (Dinner for Schmucks‘ Lucy Punch). ”The tone of this movie was so specific and  so weird,” Timberlake says. ”I kept asking, ‘How can I make this more weird?”’ Well, for one thing, Timberlake’s dorky character croons a self-penned love song called ”Simpatico” that’s easily the worst tune since Rebecca Black’s ”Friday.” ”I didn’t want it to be even good enough to be able to be used in the trailer,” he says. Justin Timberlake on Al Green:

Al Green has helped overpopulate the world. He’s got some serious babymaking music. But what makes him such an inspiration is the raw passion, the sincerity and the joy he brings to his music. People are born to do certain things, and Al was born to make us smile. You hear his voice and it lights everything up. Every time one of his songs starts playing — whether it’s “You Ought to Be With Me,” “I’m Still in Love With You,” “Love and Happiness” or, of course, “Let’s Stay Together” — when the stomp starts and the guitar comes in, you know you’re in for something full of sweet love. His songs weren’t as political as Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway. But if those guys were speaking to you, Al Green was speaking for you.

Al Green’s voice will always remind me of driving the back roads of Memphis with my parents, listening to cassette tapes. Hearing Al as a kid made me want to become a singer and showed me that it was OK to have a softer, more falsetto voice. I really related to that, because I never had a big, boisterous, American Idol showstopping voice. Al, he was a crooner. The way he would squeeze out a note can’t be trained and can’t be imitated.

Behind him was this incredible band. On songs like “Tired of Being Alone,” the horns are tasteful and restrained but completely funky. I always loved the way the mistakes were kept in on his albums, like the way the band is almost out of sync at the beginning of “Love and Happiness.” Even his messes are beautiful.

Eventually I found out this man I idolized lived five minutes from me in my hometown. Then, years later, I went to the White House (back when Clinton was in office), and Al was there performing. He sang Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” and the audience wept. After I released my first solo album, I was doing a TV special in Memphis, and I called him and asked if he’d grace us with his presence. We sang “Let’s Stay Together” on that stage, and it was a milestone in my short, unimportant career. I learned something incredible: Everything always has to be about the show. But Al Green is the show, and when you watch him perform, you see something honest and soulful and amazing.

After making a name for himself in the immensely popular boy band ‘N Sync, Timberlake has embarked on a fabulously successful career as a musician and actor — most recently in the Oscar-nominated film, The Social Network. A pop culture icon, Timberlake gained a new measure of fame (and infamy) after his 2004 Super Bowl performance with Janet Jackson gave rise to the euphemism “wardrobe malfunction.” Never losing sight of his hometown, Timberlake released a line of tequila named 901, opened the Mirimichi Golf Course in Millington, and recently received a humanitarian award from the Grammy Association for his charitable endeavors in Tennessee.
