17: justin,hi. Lets start
with your role as artie in shrek 3. how cool was that
experience?
Justin Timberlake : That was the biggest no-brainer of my
career. . . . But it was a different experience, to have
your voice on film. You come come in and you work six seven
different sessions over the course of a year and a half and
they are al four , five hours at a time , then al of a suddenyou're a character in a movie. It's really amazing.
You still act - you act your scenes by yoursef. So you trust
that what you're doing is comparable to what everybody else
is doing. That it fits . . .
17: Artie doesn't fit in - can you relate?
JT: yeah. when I was a kid.... I didn't enjoy school that
much.
17: oh really ? well what about girls... were you succesful
with girls at school?
JT: I wouldnt saw I was particularly successful . I had my
crash and burns... it's funny that the things you get picked
on for as a kid are what make you beautiful or unique as an
adult.
17: what were you picked on for?
JT: me? I was picked on for my hair , my skin , my voice. I
was weird because I could sing.
17: With all the crainess thats going on , are you happy
right now ?
JT: yea , I think more so now than ever, Ive stopped and
taken a look around , and I reallt appreciate whats
happening for me right now.
17:if you had to take a guess , what do you think , why are
you so popular ?
JT: I don't know. I think it's because i make fun of myself.
you show up at the kids choice awards and you get slimed.
you show up at an interview and make fun of yourself. maybe
it's because I dont take myself seriously.
17: anything new your working on?
JT: im working on new music right now , but not for myself.
17: can you say who youre writing songs for ?
JT: I did a song for macy gray , timbaland and rihanna. and
im going to be working on some stuff with madonna.
17: do you rely on your management team to make your career
choices for you ?
JT: im involved in everything.
17: and your good at it
JT: thank you. im learning. were all learning. I make
mistakes and I learn from that. I think , you know , if you
learn from mistakes , you dont fo them again.
17: youre at the top of the music industry right now , your
concerts are sell-outs and you've acted in three acclaimed
movies so far . whats your favorite : ecording albums ,
performing live or making movies ?
JT: they're all so completely different - dont make me
choose! I love playing live shows - theres nothing like it.
But theres nothing like making a film, and theres nothing
like a studio..... I love that right now I have all of them.
They actually inspire each other.
17:do you sometimes worry that you've become too powerful?
JT: I dont think of it as power. I think about it as
opportunities.
17: what keeps you grounded?
JT: my feet. the same things that have always been important
to me. my family. my friends. my dogs.
17: what makes you laugh?
JT: funny things
17: like?
JT: my dogs - they're hilarious. they're just big babies
17: what do they do thats so funny?
JT: their faces are sad... they look like they ran into a
wall realy hard.
17: its so sweet how you idolise your mom . whats so special
about her?
JT: shes an amazing woman. she gave up a lot for me to have
this ... she travelled across the world for me for a year
and a half. her and my stepdad - and im the only child -
shes aways treated me like a friend , like her equal. she
never talked down to me. every time i messed up , we would
talk about it.
17: you seem very cool. you'd be a cool big brother...
JT: my assisant is my cousin rachel - we're kind of like
brother and sister. i pick on her al the time. i have to
beieve that my independent nature comes from neing an only
child.
17: is it difficult to have an assistant as a friend?
JT: no , as ong as she does what I say! Just kidding. its
actualy easier for me. I dont reqiure a lot of stuff like
hair appointments and manicures that asistants have to do
for other people.
