Alpha dog review by jack foley

A STRONG ensemble cast unites for Nick Cassavetes’ Alpha Dog, the keenly anticipated indie flick that has been selected to close the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

Based on the true story of Jesse James Hollywood, a mid-level drug dealer whose ambition and ruthlessness led him to become the youngest man ever to appear on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, Alpha Dog is said to be a grittily authentic look at teenage life on the edge.

It stars Emile Hirsch (of Lords of Dogtown fame) as Johnny Truelove, a teenage suburban drug dealer, who becomes seduced by the ‘gangsta’ lifestyle of guns, sex and drugs.

Johnny begins to find himself a little out of his depth, however, when a rival cheats him and he retaliates by kidnapping the client’s younger brother – a victim who gleefully takes part in the ploy unaware of his potential fate.

The kidnap sets in motion a chain of events that quickly spiral out of control for just about everyone concerned.

Aside from Hirsch, Cassavetes has assembled a top-drawer ensemble cast including the likes of Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone and a certain Justin Timberlake (appearing in the first of two new films in 2006).

Already, the vibe surrounding Alpha Dog is good. The Sundance website describes the film as ‘dense, galvanizing filmmaking, seething with tension and culminating in a tragedy that would be shocking if we weren’t so aware of the kind of world we live in’.

It adds that Cassavetes has successfully created ‘a place with kids who live without mores, parents who don’t have a clue and ongoing conflict between the lingering innocence of youth and moral disintegration and dissolution’.

This one could well become one of the hottest indie tickets of the year.

ording the edison dvd off the german website

I have received a few emails , and I only responded to one and then decided to just post the answer publically to avoid having to answer 80 emails on the same topic.
How much does it cost in American money ? it comes out to be around 27. and change..... I don't remember off hand , but it was defenetly $27 ( I live in New jersey ).

How do I know what to hit  , the buttons are in German ? What I did was opened the link for edison , then went to a normal page on amazon.com ( the american version ) and just compared the buttons. That's the easiest way to notice what the words say. I hope this helps , if not Just email me back and I'll guide you through it.

ok so I tried to install the extreme counter so that i'd be able to see where my hits come from , as far as referrers went , but it's not working. The thing says to place the counter on each page and so far it's saying I have only had 1 hit in the past 12 hours. Thats insane. so just egnore that.

superbowl news

FCC has upheld its decision to fine CBS more than half a million-dollars for Janet Jackson`s controversial halftime performance during Super Bowl 38. Her performance ended with singer Justin Timberlake ripping off a portion of Jackson`s bustier, which exposed her breast to a worldwide television audience.

The fine of $550,000 was arrived by applying the maximum offensive broadcast fine to each CBS station.

CBS affiliates, on the other hand, face no fines.

The FCC said that was because no affiliate was involved with the selection, planning or approval of the offensive material.

CBS tried to oppose the fine by arguing that Jackson`s exposure was neither intentional nor indecent.

The FCC also proposed fining dozens of CBS stations $32,000 for an episode of "Without A Trace." The episode in 2004 depicted a sex orgy with boys and girls.

Gawker is launching their
new map feature today. It's a pretty simple concept: each day they'll have an intern manning an email address, and as "Gawker Stalker" missives come in, the intern will plot them on a map. This way, you can stalk your favorite celebrities in real time. Why you would want to stalk Lindsay Lohan is beyond us-- but that's an entirely different story. The new map feature brings up some obvious security and privacy issues.

This scares me. now Justin will never be able to be safe and or alone. Now these morons will be able to track him down 24/7 . that's not fare.

The Premiere magazine has JUST hit news stands. When I went shopping looking for it , I at first found only the Lindsay Lohan covered feature. But then went to Borders books and found the cover with Johnny Depp.
The issue that Justin is in was NOT last month's issue. it is infact the current issue.

justins relationship news

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE has hit out at speculation he is on the brink of splitting with girlfriend CAMERON DIAZ, branding the allegations "garbage". The singer has been dating actress Diaz for almost three years, but his reluctance to propose has prompted rumours he is on the verge of dumping her. A source tells the New York Daily News, "Justin has told friends he's 'confused'. "He likes Cameron a lot. But he's 25. He says he just doesn't know how committed he can be. He needs space. Cameron is a little controlling." However, Timberlake's publicist, KEN SUNSHINE, has blasted the whispers, insisting the couple remain blissfully happy together. He says, "It's complete garbage."

NEWS NEWS NEWS

Pop singer JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE has landed his first Hollywood leading role as an action hero in war film STOP THE LOSS. The JUSTIFIED star will be playing a tough renegade soldier, in a role similar to that of SYLVESTER STALLONE's unhinged Vietnam War veteran JOHN RAMBO. A source says, "Justin is thrilled about getting his first leading role. It is a huge challenge for him and he's excited as well as nervous." And Timberlake needs to rush if he wants to make sure his upcoming album is recorded before filming starts. The source adds, "Justin will have to work quickly to finish the songs. He has been in the studio but he won't have much time once he starts filming."

* this is probably a Rumor. but I posted it just in case it is true.

LOS ANGELES — The kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old Nick Markowitz in 2000 was true-crime story that had "soon to be a major motion picture" practically written all over it.
The tragedy had a young victim, a manhunt for the kidnapper and a ring of middle-class 20-somethings who sold marijuana in the San Fernando Valley.

Alpha Dog, a $13 million movie with a cast including Justin Timberlake, Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone, is based on the slaying in Santa Barbara, Calif. It's ready for release. But the film is now entangled in the criminal case against a defendant with a name that no screenwriter would dare make up: Jesse James Hollywood.

Hollywood, 26, has petitioned the California Supreme Court to remove the Santa Barbara County district attorney's office from the case for "unprecedented misconduct" in giving non-public case files to filmmaker Nick Cassavetes.

Defense lawyer James Blatt says he'll ask another court to block New Line Cinema from releasing the "inflammatory" movie until after Hollywood's death-penalty trial later this year.

The studio had scheduled the opening for April but now says it will choose a date this spring "to be determined." Alpha Dog got mixed reviews at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, in January.

'Rebel, anti-authority image'

Hollywood was indicted for allegedly being the leader of a drug gang and orchestrating Markowitz's killing. He fled after the murder and became at age 20 one of the youngest people to be pictured on the FBI's website as a wanted fugitive.

The 5-foot-4, tough-talking Hollywood was a "cult hero" to Valley kids, says Michael Mehas, associate producer of Alpha Dog. "It's that rebel, anti-authority image," Mehas says.

Hollywood was a fugitive for 4½ years until he was captured in Brazil in March 2005. He has pleaded innocent.

"Having him get caught has been a mixed blessing," Mehas says. "It turned the spotlight on the case, but it enmeshed the film in the real-life story."

Ron Zonen, the chief deputy district attorney in Santa Barbara County, says Hollywood and others kidnapped Markowitz to pressure his older half brother to pay a $1,200 drug debt. After Hollywood's lawyer told him that kidnapping for extortion carries a life sentence, Hollywood ordered the abducted boy killed, Zonen says.

By 2003, Zonen had won convictions of four young men linked with Hollywood. The accused triggerman, Ryan Hoyt, is on death row and is appealing his conviction. TV's America's Most Wanted and other shows failed to produce any good tips to find Hollywood. His trail had gone cold in Canada, Zonen says.

Then director-screenwriter Cassavetes asked Zonen to cooperate on a movie "that was going to be accurate and use original names," the prosecutor says. "He said it was going to reach an international audience. That was the appeal."

Zonen says he knew that Cassavetes' parents were actress Gena Rowlands and the late director-actor John Cassavetes. "I felt he had the Hollywood pedigree — that's Hollywood with a small 'h' — to make it fly," says Zonen, who was a prosecutor in Michael Jackson's child-molestation trial last year. Jackson was acquitted.

Mehas says Zonen gave the filmmakers his notebook from the four previous prosecutions in the Markowitz case, in addition to police and probation reports, a psychological report on Hoyt and crime photos.

The film follows Zonen's theory of the crime, but Cassavetes was unable to keep a promise to the prosecutor: All names were changed on advice from lawyers for the producers. Hollywood became Johnny Truelove, played by Emile Hirsch.

Film revised after arrest

Cassavetes had finished filming Alpha Dog when Hollywood was captured in Brazil. When Hollywood was booked in Santa Barbara, Cassavetes said the film would need revising. He had Johnny Truelove captured in Bolivia.

The expense of shooting new scenes was just the start of trouble for the filmmakers. New Line Cinema screened Alpha Dog at a preview last summer. Blatt, Hollywood's lawyer, says he attended. He then filed motions with Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Brian Hill, asserting the film endangers Hollywood's right to a fair trial.

"Names are changed, but they advertised it as a true story and everyone's going to know it's the Jesse James Hollywood story," Blatt says in an interview. Cassavetes was summoned to court to answer questions about the film at a hearing in August. Hill ordered Mehas to turn over his notes for a book he has written on the case.

Hill and an appeals court rejected Blatt's move to kick Zonen and his office off the case. On March 3, Blatt complained to the California Supreme Court that Zonen acted improperly in helping Cassavetes portray Hollywood's character in an "inflammatory manner." In a court filing, Zonen said "there was no misconduct in assisting Nick Cassavetes in making a movie that would reasonably assist law enforcement in apprehending a fugitive."

Blatt says Zonen's ties to the movie create a conflict of interest — a bias that prevents Hollywood from receiving "evenhanded prosecution." Zonen received no money, but "future profit may be implied," Blatt says. Zonen denies any conflict of interest. The court will decide by May 2 whether to take action.

Blatt acknowledges that there's no precedent for removing prosecutors for helping filmmakers and says he'll have "an uphill battle" to delay the film's release. He says prospective jurors can be dismissed if seeing the film leaves them with an unshakeable opinion that Hollywood is guilty.

Zonen says few prospective jurors are likely to see the youth-oriented Alpha Dog. "There's a heavy dosage of rap music and drugs and booze and yelling and swearing," he says. "It's not the kind of movie the 40-plus are going to flock to. And anyone who has seen this movie will simply be excused — all three of them."

alpha dog in trouble for release

Upcoming movie ALPHA DOG has been hit with legal action by JESSE JAMES HOLLYWOOD - the man whose kidnap and murder case the film is based on. Hollywood - whose accomplice is played by pop star-turned-actor JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - claims the NICK CASSAVETES movie will prejudice his upcoming trial for the abduction and murder of a Californian teenager over an alleged drug debt. Lawyers acting for Hollywood have also called for the Santa Barbara district attorney's office to be removed from the case after they freely co-operated with film-makers. Attorney JAMES BLATT says, "We are considering different types of legal action to prevent the film being distributed. "Any defence team would have a legitimate concern that the movie, which depicts Mr Hollywood in a very negative light, would have an effect on selecting a fair and impartial jury." Santa Barbara district attorney RONALD ZONEN reportedly furnished Cassavetes with his notes on four previous cases, in addition to police and probation reports, photographs and a psychological report. Hollywood went missing in 2000 following the kidnap and murder of NICHOLAS MARKOWITZ. Filming on Alpha Dog had concluded when Hollywood was arrested in Brazil last year (MAR05), and Cassavetes was forced to rewrite his script - character names had already been changed on legal advice.

k-fed vs jt

Britney's ex, Justin Timberlake, reportedly has no love for K-Fed according to Star magazine. Being somewhat of an expert since he's banging Cameron Diaz, Timberlake believes K-Fed is "gross" and claims that he [Timberlake] would jump at the chance to reunite with Britney, professionally that is, in order to help her put together a comeback record.

He thinks Kevin is gross, and there's not much that would change his mind about that," a source told the tab. "He says that they [Spears and Timberlake] had a lot of great years together, and he's pretty sad at how things turned out for her....."He's someone who never backs down from an artistic challenge, and he's said that he'd love to see Britney redeem herself through music - even if he has to give her a push."

I would be pulling for Timberlake if there were an actual prize at the end of all this. Sadly, it's only Britney Spears. A once perfect ass has been desecrated and ruined by K-Fed's semen, and bacon and marshmallow sandwiches, so why even bother? You might as well fight over who gets to wear the parachute pants, at least then you'd have the motivation to put your penis in something.

some old britney stuff

Many Britney Spears fans believe that the once hot pop starlet was at her best when she was with Justin Timberlake.

Back in the good old days

Now there's a report that hints of a reunion between the two former lovers and they may get together again.

But it's only in studio.

***

Jeannette Walls reports that JT apparently hasn’t ruled out the possibility of reuniting with Spears — professionally, that is.

“I’ll bet if Britney wanted Justin to help her put together a comeback record, he’d jump at the chance,” says the source.

“He’s someone who never backs down from an artistic challenge, and he’s said that he’d love to see Britney redeem herself through music — even if he has to give her a push.”

Someone needs to give this girl a push - who better than Justin?
