Rolling Stones Top VH1′s ’100 Greatest Music Artists of All Time’ List
NEW YORK, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ — VH1 goes back to its music roots and revisits the age-old question: “Who is the greatest music artist for all time?” Determined by a poll of well-known music artists and music experts in the industry, VH1 will reveal this definitive (and sure-to-be highly controversial) list declaring who is the greatest of the great. Hosted by Jim Shearer (VH1′s “Top 20 Video Countdown“), the 4-night special, VH1′s “100 Greatest Artists of All Time,” premieres Monday, September 6 at 10/9c with a 2-hour premiere.
This definitive countdown covers all genres of music – from rock to pop to rap to metal – to answer who is worthy to possess the title as “the greatest music artist of all time.” Over the 200 musicians including Alicia Keys, Ozzy Osbourne, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Iggy Pop, Nas, Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Geddy Lee (Rush), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Michael Diamond (Beastie Boys), Daryl Hall, John Oates, Noel Gallagher (Oasis), Gene Simmons (KISS), Adam Levine (Maroon Five), 50 Cent, Nelly Furtado, Mandy Moore, Carrie Underwood, Adam Clayton (U2) and many more voted on who they believe deserves this highly coveted title.
In 1998, VH1 launched the same list as the channel’s first countdown special; however; much has changed since the dawn of the new millennium. VH1 puts this debate up for a vote again to see which rock pioneers still matter and which new acts rate in the age of download-to-own music and ever-changing pop culture. The countdown will include special, rarely-seen performance footage along with brand new, totally original interviews with music’s most famous faces including interviews by Adele, Backstreet Boys, Brandy, Bret Michaels, Chris Daughtry, Hall & Oates, Keane, Ozzy Osbourne, Ray J, Sheryl Crow, Usher, Whitney Houston and many more.
TheGreatest.VH1.com will have exclusive extras including interviews and commentary. Additionally, online visitors will be able to participate by using VH1′s voting tool that allows users to pick their favorite artists, weigh in their opinions and socially broadcast their take on the list through Twitter.com and Facebook.com.

^ I was thinking the same thing!
Whats that chart based on??
she not on the list cause she’s not an artist she’s an entertainer–you dont see her writing her own songs or producing her songs or other people’s either…she doesn’t even sing live
Jt should definitely be higher
No Usher. =( Him and Justin are like the best male entertainers.
It’s great to see Justin’s right there among some heavy hitters.

Quality and greatness !
[and that's why britney is not on that list !]
I’m happy Beyonce is also on that list.
But my question is; where the hell is KANYE WEST ?!?
he’s a freaking genius !
not puting him on that list is a SHAME !!!!

False, false, false…I can see you don’t know her….There isn’t even Christina Aguilera. Like Britney, wrong decisions of the label have a negative impact on success (see Bionic). If you remember, Jive didn’t like FS/LS, but Justin has opposed, and has contributed financially to the production to have more control. I really hope Britney decides to have more control in the future (see In The Zone) because she has talent and she is an artist, has demonstrated it several times, but her image has suffered from her past and the decisions of Jive.
britney isn’t on the list because musicians and music insiders do NOT consider her an artist.
A singer who is a poster child for lip syncing pop stars will never be respected as a musician.
Italian girl,
You are delusional, if you think Britney having more control with her music will make her a better artist.
She is successful because of her team of producers who write, produce, auto-tune her songs to make her sound decent. With Britney, it’s all smoke and mirrors. There is no artistry when a supposed singer cannot even carry a tune enough to sing her own songs live.
I would like to know what artistry she has demonstrated that you are speaking of.
Enlighten us.
Justin must be in the top 20.

^^
EXACTLY.
she’s NOT an artist, not even half.
she does’nt even sing live ! like how low you can get ?!?
Sorry, but, I’m SURE that I will lose time, even if I will talk about Britney for hours, you are convinced of your opinion. Believe what you believe. Well, I think otherwise. Peace.
Thank You Guest , anyone that thinks Britney is an true artist probably think Milli Vanilli,Aaron Carter were really artists as well
I dont’ know even who is Milli Vanilli…(Aaron is Nick’s brother, right?). And, stop treating Britney’s fans like stupid people. I’m not stupid. Why you insult me and my intelligence? Just because I have a different opinion?
lol at all the britney haters.
do you have any idea how successful that woman is? any at all?
Milli Vanilli :”Girl you know it`s true – u u uuuuuu I love you – yes you know it`s true – u u uuuuu I love you” and so on lol Don`t you know this song Italiangirl? As you can see, the lyrics are very deep lol
Britney’s success has nothing to do with her ” artistry.”
She was a manufactured pop puppet and sadly she is still one.
No growth at all. If anything she has regressed in her ” art.”
at least she used to be able to dance. Now standing around flipping her head back and forth while her dancers do all the work is just so sad for a pro who has been in the business a decade.
Ola I don’t know neither the song nor her . If Britney is just a “manufactured pop puppet”, she didn’t has the success still now. Why Britney has fans from a decade? We are all stupid? Why I am a Britney’s fan, but I don’t like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers and Co.? They are really manufactured pop puppet and they will be it in the future.
I usually just browse this site without actually leaving any comments. However, I will say this about “Britney”. Critics are hard on her; fans adore her. Music to me can be interpreted in so many ways. Britney is a Pop artist, she makes fun danceable songs. She never claim to be anything more. I do agree that she does not have the best voice in the industry. However, she understands pop and can take a song and make it her own. Anybody can have someone write them a good song, but it takes someone creative and talented in their own right, to hear a song and make it into something bigger. This is why she is successful, she knows what makes a good pop song. Yes, she may have lost some credibility because she doesn’t sing 100% live. She is a performance artist, she can listen to a song, create a vision and bring it to life, only few artist can do this. Anyways,to call her “manufactured” to me is a weak argument at this point in her career, maybe after the first or second album yes! the consumer may fall for it, but going on 7? that to me indicates she has something, regardless of whether we like her music or not. I am not so much into her music or pop in general, but yes I do enjoy some of her music especially from her previous album. okay now bye.LOL!!P.S I think JT is a very talented artist and deserves the recognition.
do you have any idea how successful that woman is? any at all?
^just becuz she is successful doesn’t make her a true artist like most of the artists on the list like The Beatles, Michael Jackson, U2, Aretha Franklin and the others.
Lindsay Lohan is (or was, Lol) successful too. That doesn’t mean she is going to be on the list of the best 100 actors. Lol
Yes just being successful doesn’t equal being artistic. However, what the word “art” can be define and interpreted in more than one way. In no circumstance should anyone compare The Beatles, Michael Jackson, U2, Aretha Franklin to Britney, JT,or Ladygaga etc. They all create art in different form, and all good at what they do some great than others. It takes YES! a lot to be successful whether you agree or not. Yes, Britney may not be in one list or another, but to say she doesn’t create art is a void argument. Art is what you make it, she creates what her fans likes. However, it may not be your or my cup of tea, which is ok. I don’t like heavy metal music, doesn’t take away from the fact that it is music, another form of art and many enjoy it.If you dislike her as person, well then…. I guess we cannot love them all.

^This one is art lol
I will never understand why the american public carries such a love/hate relationship with britney spears. I think the woman is talented, imo. I love her music…it’s catchy and distinctive. but regardless, saying negative comments about her “lack of artistry” is really a waste of breath. Being on a list or not being on a list, she will still be percieved as a icon of american music. again, just my opinion.
