Coming hot off the seven year process that was getting their first film, CHRISTMAS ON MARS, to some sort of a release, it looks like Wayne Coyne, front man of The Flaming Lips, isn’t at all afraid to get back into the filmmaking machine.

Coyne, in a recent interview with Billboard (via Pitchfork), said that he is already working on another film, “and this one might not even take as long.”

The artist plans on filming the project in Oklahoma City, and is set in someone’s house, a backyard, and a slaughterhouse, instead of being shot on a space station-style set as MARS was.  However as interesting as that may be, Coyne has some intriguing ideas for who he would like to cast in the film:

“I’m gonna try to get real actors, too, celebrities to show up and have fun with us for a couple of nights. I’m in the process of begging Justin Timberlake to be part of it; if I’m lucky I’ll be able to wear him down in another year.”

Timberlake does have a history of appearing in mind-bogglingly weird feature films; he did, after all, hold down starring roles in both Southland Tales and The Love Guru. And he appeared with the Lips on “Top of the Pops”, while wearing a dolphin suit.

Coyne says that he’s beginning work on the film, and that he and bandmate Steven Drozd have started work on the film’s music. But this one could also take a while: “Because I get to do it with people I love and it’s my art, I don’t care how long it takes.”

Meanwhile, Coyne will be busy with his regular frontman duties this year. The Flaming Lips will tour the U.S. in the coming months.
