The paparazzi have but one simple task – to take pictures of celebrities.  When they bungle it,  it’s pretty funny. 

Example: With rumors swirling about Justin Timberlake and In-the-Shell-Egg-Scrambler heir Lauren Popeil, a shot of Justin with girlfriend Cameron Diaz would be valuable video.  And the photog in question could have had it all, had he just realized who was standing right in front of him.

Yes, this professional photographer had his lens trained on Cameron, and even asked about Timberlake, without ever noticing that Justin was only feet away.  Nice work, genius!

Justin Timberlake has penciled in a Sept. 12 North American release date for his second solo album, “FutureSex/LoveSounds.” The Jive set will be preceded by the single “SexyBack,” which will be delivered July 7 to U.S. radio outlets. The track was co-written and co-produced by Timberlake with Timbaland and Nate Hills.

As for the new album, additional production was supplied by Rick Rubin and JAWBreakers, Timberlake’s behind-the-boards duo with the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am.

will.i.am was at a loss to describe the project’s musical direction when asked in January by Billboard.com. “I can’t explain it, that’s how dope it is,” he said with a laugh. “He just surprised me again. I was surprised that I was even going to like Justin Timberlake. Then he turned me into a fan, and I’ve become a fan. That means you are so talented that you are changing people’s vocabulary.”

“FutureSex/LoveSounds” is the follow-up to 2002′s “Justified,” which debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 3.5 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Timberlake is planning a U.S. club tour in August to unveil the new material.

Alpha Dog is the story of Johnny Truelove (Emile Hirsch), a young man from
the San Gabriel Valley ambitious to follow in his father’s footsteps.
However, when one of Johnny’s plans goes awry, his father (Bruce Willis) is
forced to step in and save his son from a life behind bars. The story
chronicles Johnny and his crew as they misstep their way through a tragic
crime, and the emotional and moral fallout that each character must deal
with as a result.

Inspired by actual events, Alpha Dog is a moving and tragic drama centred on
the three fateful days when the lives of a few suburban kids were turned
upside-down forever.

Memphis Music Foundation president Rey Flemings told City Council members Tuesday that a “large record label recruitment” would be announced in September — apparently a re-launch of Stax Records.

Flemings wouldn’t elaborate later, but council member Rickey Peete said the legendary label was being restarted with the involvement of homegrown pop star Justin Timberlake.

“They are definitely going to re-launch Stax,” Peete said. “But it’s my understanding they’ve got some other record labels that are looking at relocating here, not just Stax. Stax is a major flagship.”

Council members have been briefed on music-industry initiatives by the Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission, for which they provide funding, and its private nonprofit partner, the foundation.

In an apparent reference to Timberlake, operations & management budget committee chairman Jack Sammons said, during Tuesday’s meeting: “It’s one of the worst-kept secrets in town that one of our big stars who was born and raised in the Memphis area is moving back and going to make a significant investment.

“It just seems like we’re on the threshold of something great here.”

There have been national and international reports dating to last fall that Timberlake was reviving Stax. He has been a vocal supporter of Memphis music, and a friend to the commission and foundation. Last year, he hosted a foundation-sponsored private artist showcase, and sang the Otis Redding Stax classic “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.”

Stax put Memphis on the world map in the 1960s and early ’70s as Soulsville USA, with the likes of Sam and Dave’s “Soul Man” and Booker T. and the MGs’ “Green Onions.”

Before financial woes forced its closing more than three decades ago, Stax also helped make Memphis a major world recording center.

In the decades since, Memphis has been more of a world musical capital of memories — including the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, at the company’s old site on McLemore in South Memphis.

The label’s revival, by one of the contemporary scene’s biggest stars, could be a major step toward re-establishing Memphis’s music industry and its place on the national scene — stated goals of the commission and foundation.

Alpha Dog Moves to Universal Pictures
Universal Pictures has picked up distribution rights for the Nick Cassavetes-directed Alpha Dog from New Line Cinema, which was previously eyeing a spring 2006 release.

Universal plans to open the drama on more than 1,000 screens in the first quarter of 2007. The studio may also release it this December for an Oscar-qualifying run.

Inspired by actual events, Alpha Dog revolves around a mid-level drug dealer from the San Gabriel Valley whose thirst for power led him to become, at 19, the youngest man ever to appear on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Emile Hirsch stars as teenage suburban drug dealer Johnny Truelove, an ambitious young man whose lifestyle is a mecca for guns, sex and drugs. When a “client” cheats Johnny and a deal goes bad, he devises a plan to get his money back by kidnapping the client’s younger brother – but it’s not a typical kidnapping when it turns out that everyone knows and likes the kid.

So what now? Things take an unexpected twist as Johnny and his crew get caught up in the dangerous and violent world they once idealized.

Ben Foster, Shawn Hatosy, Sharon Stone, Justin Timberlake and Bruce Willis also star.

Universal came in as distributor of the film following a disagreement over release strategy between New Line and Cassavetes and producer/financier Sidney Kimmel. New Line is said to have favored a Crash-like platform release.

Cassavetes, who directed The Notebook and John Q for that studio, felt Alpha Dog deserved a comparable wide release. Universal agreed with Cassavetes and Kimmel.
